The High Rising Cost Of Classic Video Games

Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, people have been trying to find more and more ways to occupy their time. Collecting hobbies such as coins, comics, books, and other things has become increasingly more popular.  Collecting video games has also seen a rise in interested people.  And while more people involved in something does mean popularity growth, which would, in turn, mean somewhat rising prices on items, something interesting, namely the sharply high rising prices of retro video games has that been happening more and more has caught the attention of the video game collecting community.

Screenshots: Sable (Demo)

Sable was a game I had my eye on since a friend recommended that I watch the trailer for the game. The art style immediately caught my attention and luckily, developer Shedworks and publisher Raw Fury, released a demo for the game.

Lee Carvallo’s Putting Challenge Playable Game

Anyone who is a fan of the television show ‘The Simpsons’ has probably heard of Lee Carvallo’s Putting Challenge at one time or another. If not, it was a video game played by character Bart Simpsons during the closing credits in Season 7, Episode 7 called “Marge Be Not Proud”. If you have never seen the scene, watch the clip here.

Well now a ComCult MA student named @AaronDemeter has created this game using the Unity game engine for play in browser. The game is located at this link Lee Carvallo’s Putting Challenge at Aaron’s Itch.io page and can be downloaded while being able help support the creator with a donation.

Of course, I had to experience the game in it’s truest way.

hardrock’s Best of 2013

Best of 2013 012013 was another very interesting year for video games. Reboots, new console launches and the subject of DRM among other things. Plus it was a year I personally learned that retro gaming is just as important as modern games, game collecting can become a full time and expensive hobby, branching out into more different ways of gaming can be fun plus much more. So it was an interesting choice of picks when I sat down to write almost all the games I played this year, and what I would ultimately pick as my favorite ones of 2013.

While most people/sites will only put games that were released this year, I don’t get to everything as soon as I would like too. Plus being a game collector and retro gamer, I sometimes discover and play games that were released years ago. So this list will contain the best and noticeable games that I played during the year in no particular order. Except the final game which is marked as my Game of the Year of 2013.

Some people collect coins, other stamps. I collect video games.

It’s amazing what you can do with money, especially when on a budget. After all, we really need to stretch out that dollar as much as we can these days.
