Anyone who is a fan of the television show ‘The Simpsons’ has probably heard of Lee Carvallo’s Putting Challenge at one time or another. If not, it was a video game played by character Bart Simpsons during the closing credits in Season 7, Episode 7 called “Marge Be Not Proud”. If you have never seen the scene, watch the clip here.
Well now a ComCult MA student named @AaronDemeter has created this game using the Unity game engine for play in browser. The game is located at this link Lee Carvallo’s Putting Challenge at Aaron’s Itch.io page and can be downloaded while being able help support the creator with a donation.
Of course, I had to experience the game in it’s truest way.
2013 was another very interesting year for video games. Reboots, new console launches and the subject of DRM among other things. Plus it was a year I personally learned that retro gaming is just as important as modern games, game collecting can become a full time and expensive hobby, branching out into more different ways of gaming can be fun plus much more. So it was an interesting choice of picks when I sat down to write almost all the games I played this year, and what I would ultimately pick as my favorite ones of 2013.
While most people/sites will only put games that were released this year, I don’t get to everything as soon as I would like too. Plus being a game collector and retro gamer, I sometimes discover and play games that were released years ago. So this list will contain the best and noticeable games that I played during the year in no particular order. Except the final game which is marked as my Game of the Year of 2013.
Some people collect coins, other stamps. I collect video games.

Returning back to my local “flea” market, I told myself that I would pick something up this time, but I would only limit my video game spending too around twenty dollars. After all, I needed to take into consideration funds for my mini donuts while I’m there. This also provided a challenge, I would have to think hard about what I was going to get before I purchased. Some people have their stamps, some have coins. I collect video games. And at times even some video game related materials if I seem interested in them. Now while I’m nowhere near to the collection of a Pete Dorr or others on that level, but I’m always out looking for old and/or various games. Some I played in my childhood, rented and never bought, or those games that I always heard about but never had a chance to play. And as much as I’d love to spend $200 plus for that still sealed copy of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 for the PlayStation 2, the economy and life doesn’t always have that in the cards. Instead I tend to focus on buying games, in good condition at least, that I will play at some time or another (can you say backlog). (more…)
